MusicVideos

The song i have chosen to analyse is Glory by Bastille https://vimeo.com/220631193.

Imagery
The shot types used in this music video are mainly over the shoulder shots, however there are other types of shots for example they used a low angle shot for the bar scenes and later on in the video they used a helicopter to get a high angle shot of the view around them. The camera movements were as though it was from another persons perspective and they followed the two main people around throughout the video. Throughout the video there wasn't just one scene, there were multiple scenes to show that the two main people had been moving it gives a sense that they filmed the video and different scenes over a course of days to get the right shots that work well with the video and work smoothly together.

Sound
Throughout the entire video is the music however the opening and the ending is silent with an aeroplane flying to create miss-en-scene to attract the audience to the video. Sounds like the keys clinking together when Dan picks them up from the bar and when the tumble weed rolled onto the road when the wind was blowing, these sounds create a sense of reality. In the song there instrumental bits to make the song sound professional. The longest stretch of instrumental is at the end of the song which is about 40 seconds long. The music and sounds included in the song fit the genre type and would appeal to someone who likes alternative music.

Mise-En-Scene
The costumes worn in this video aren't very stereotypical but they're the sort of clothes those people would wear. Throughout the video there are only two main actors and other side actors that hold up signs on the side of the road and one other actress who is dancing on the side of the road. The two main characters act out specific scenes as though it is all real and it works well with the music and the type of video. The setting and lighting of each setting is perfect for each shot and scene. The lighting works well with each location as well. For the type of shots in each scene the lighting works well because you can see the two actors and the setting around them. This is also effective in the opening and closing scenes on the car at night. The locations chosen for the video work well with each other as they make sense together and they work well together,

How to Do Cover Analysis

My music magazine genre is mostly based on alternative or indie music and my primary target would be young adults who enjoy this sort of music. The adults and teenagers aimed for this magazine would range from 15 - 25 years old. Aimed for men and women. Social grade would from B to C2. Mainly caucasian people would purchase this magazine as it isn't the sort of music coloured people would listen to. People that purchase this magazine would probably like travelling and partying. They may also like to go to concerts.

Masthead
The masthead of the magazine is in big bold letters in a bold colour that will draw anyone to the magazine. The masthead 'NME' stands for New Music Express. The bright red colour on the masthead makes the magazine stand out. With the masthead being bold and big, it attracts younger people and makes them want to buy the magazine.

Colour Pallet
The colours chosen to be used for the magazine are very simple and bold so it gives off the impression that it is a very professional magazine as simplicity shows quality in some cases. This colour scheme would most likely attract people that like simple colours or a small selection of colours. Connotations of these colours show masculinity and power in the red and show passiveness in the white so there is a mixture of both colours which will draw people to the magazine as these are two completely different meanings.

Layout
The layout of the magazine cover is presented in a way that it will draw people to the magazine and want to buy it as it is presented in a way a professional magazine would be laid out. The additional bands at the top next to the masthead show that this magazine is promoting other bands. The title of the magazine is the main attraction. The images of the other bands performing live make it look as though people have gone to those concerts to take images and put them onto the magazine cover. The cover of the magazine isn't too cramped and isn't to spaced out so this may attract an audience that doesn't like too crowded covers and that doesn't like too spaced out covers.

Images
The background image shows the main attraction along with the title, this background shows that people took time and effort to get a good photo with a good camera angle, the camera angle has a slight low angle so this doesn't make the cover seem or look boring. The main image in the background shows that there are no facial expressions only looking out into the distance. The lighting in the image isn't aimed at any place in particular. The clothes worn in this image are just casual everyday clothes, this makes the magazine look like they aren't bothered by anything complicated. The main image may attract an audience as they can see the person in full and they can see a view behind him which may attract people who like views. The view in the background may also represent others as they may like to go walking whilst listening to music. On the cover there are only two minor images and these are taken at low angles and they are taken at concerts. The minor images may attract an audience as they may like those featured in the images for example Ellie Goulding and Dan Smith from Bastille.

Teasers/Typography/Lexis
Some of the minor images may give clues as to what is in the magazine to read about those bands in the images. On the cover for the magazine there isn't much writing apart from the title and text about the main attraction. The language used on the cover is very simple and isn't very formal. The language used on the cover shows that this person has had a big breakthrough in the music industry, this may excite people and may want them to read the magazine. On this cover there is no punctuation used which gives the impression that the magazine is straight to the point.

Other features
On the cover there are features like a barcode, issue number and price. These show quality and will make people want to buy and read the magazine as it may seem legit and professional. These features aren't too big and aren't too small, they're big enough for people to be able to notice them. They are this size because they want people to be able to notice them and not be too bothered by them.
