Double Page Spread 1
Colour Pallet
The colour pallet is very simple and easy. Most colours are black, red and yellow. These colours work well together and attract a target audience because they work well together and they have a lot of meaning behind those colours. Blocks of writing have been put into a block of one colour, this can attract target audience because these blocks of bright colours will stand out and make people look at them and read what is in the blocks.
Imagery
The imagery used on the double page spread is bunched together and includes only the band that are featured on the double page spread so a target audience can have choice of images to look at as well as the blocks of text that has information on the band on the double page spread. The page has mostly smaller images and one big image as the background.

Analysis of Contents Page

Colour Pallet
The colour pallet used on the contents page represents and attracts a target audience because the colours are bright, bold and used well. The colours used are red and blue. These make the page stick out and therefore make the target audience want to read it as there are bright and bold colours attracting the audience. The colour red means energy, strength and power. These connotations have a big impact on a target audience as these meanings for this colour are powerful and will attract a target audience.
Imagery
The imagery used on the contents page is just one big image of a band that was very famous, this may attract a target audience that may like this band or have heard of them before. MOJO may have to rely on imagery because a target audience may be attracted to a specific band that happen to be in the magazine and therefore read the whole magazine.
Typography
The typography used on the contents page is the same typography as the front cover. It appeals to a target audience and could attract people that may not be a target audience. The text is big and bold which will then attract people to read the contents page and find out what there is to read.
Lexis
The lexis used on the contents page is put into blocks of text about a band that is featured in the magazine. The cover story is also put into a block of text. This can attract a target audience because people may just want to read a bit about a band that is featured in the magazine also they may like everything in one area so it is easier to find what is in the magazine also it gives the page a more professional look rather than messy and not appealing.

Lyrics
Guess it's true, I'm not good at a one-night stand
But I still need love 'cause I'm just a man
These nights never seem to go to plan
I don't want you to leave, will you hold my hand?
But I still need love 'cause I'm just a man
These nights never seem to go to plan
I don't want you to leave, will you hold my hand?
Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me
Why am I so emotional?
No it's not a good look, gain some self control
And deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me so it doesn't hurt
No it's not a good look, gain some self control
And deep down I know this never works
But you can lay with me so it doesn't hurt
Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me
Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me
Oh, won't you stay with me?
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me
'Cause you're all I need
This ain't love it's clear to see
But darling, stay with me

Laura
Mulvey (1975) argued women in the media are used as; ‘Erotic objects of
desire for males on screen and in the audience,’ (Mulvey, 1975).
|
This ain't love it's clear to see But darling, stay with me |
Gauntlett
(2002) argues males in the media still follow traditional stereotypes as they
are shown as, ‘Alpha males who control the action with violence,’ (Gauntlett,
2002).

Mackillon
argues something slightly difference, ‘Males are now shown as sexual objects
of desire who are more concerned with image,’ (Mackillon, 2002).
|
|
Stanley
Hall argues youths are; ‘depressed’ and are likely to seek excitement
through; crime, sex, drink/drugs,’ (Hall, 1904).

Dick Hebdige
(1988) argued youths are stereotyped as mixed metaphors of; “Youth as fun,”

|
|
Richard Butsch (1992) who says working class males in the
media are presented as; "Incompetent and ineffectual, often a

that has been embraced by Hip-Hop culture.
|
|
Malik points out the obvious 1998); “Many feel that Black and Asian audiences
are still not sufficiently catered for and that insensitivity towards issues
of race and ethnicity still exist. The reality of a lived multiculturalism is
not represented in the British media."
|
|
Keith Gandal's, in 2007 he said that target
audiences are drawn in by the; "Sentimental rags-to-riches story,"

Exam style question
How does diegetic and non diegetic sound attract and represent a target audience?
Diegetic and non diegetic sound represents and attracts a target audience in this song because the lyrics may relate to a target audience in a number of ways. For example, Sam Smith's song 'Stay With Me' has lyrics that may relate to people in a relationship, people may be going through situations in which these lyrics come into play with the target audience. The lyrics "Oh won't you stay with me? Your love is all I need, this love ain't clear to see, but darling stay with me" support Laura Mulvey's theory of women being seen as sexually desired objects, this can be viewed towards a target audience that maybe able to relate to these lyrics or this theory as this is happening around the world. This song also represents Richard Butsch theory of working class males being presented as incompetent and ineffectual and well intentioned but dumb, there are lyrics to support this theory: "Why am I so emotional? No it's not a good look, gain some self control" These lyrics represent a male target audience because men in a relationship may want to do good things or they are thinking they are doing goo things for their girlfriends but they're not but they do not know it, or relating to the lyrics more than the theory, they may be getting emotional and they may relate to the lyrics. When Sam sings "But I still need love cause I'm just a man, These nights never seem to go to plan, I don't want you to leave, will you hold my hand?" this supports Gauntlett's theory men being the alpha male in the media and modern age.
