News Revision Miss Stott

Explain two ways newspapers are funded. Newspapers are funded through advertising, subscriptions, purchases

Newspapers are funded by advertising, for example online newspapers as well as traditional newspapers would advertise different companies in those newspapers and they will be payed by those companies. They are also funded through subscriptions, for example people will pay a monthly subscription fee to get exclusive content or to get additional services or advertisements.

  • Don't like sensationalist report - don't like clickbait
  • Holding powerful to account - not owned by billionaire, owned by trust
  • Value multicultural society - don't wanna leave Europe
  • Value art and high culture
  • Multicultural beliefs
"The representations featured in the online Observer reflects its value and beliefs." Discuss how far you agree with this statement in relation to Extract 3, the online Observer homepage.
The representations featured in the online Observer reflects its values and beliefs of social democratic views of caring about people rather than business, for example on the cover of the newspaper the subheading says 'Suicidal children face long delay for care' shows that they are caring for the children by writing about them and showing awareness of that topic, rather than having a subheading based around businesses. On another cover, it features a black woman under a picture of a white woman so this shows the newspapers multicultural beliefs.
